Leaving a narcissist is terrifying, but knowing about 'why' you fear leaving the narcissistic relationship helps to minimize the pain.
Although leaving a narcissist relationship is probably one of the most frightening things one person could ever do, it is absolutely necessary. The only way to save yourself is to leave a narcissist behind. Narcissist are wired to gaslight, confuse you, scramble your mind, demean you, criticize, hoover, accuse, ridicule, embarrass, threaten, and destroy those in their lives. Void of the ability to have empathy for others, the only choice someone has to survive this unhealthy dynamic, is to abandon the relationship.
When you are codependent, and you are in a relationship with a narcissist, you fear what they think of you. Because they know this, they do what they can to enhance that fear in you. Narcissists tell you what to think, and even what you think. They leave you wondering, "Wait, is he right? Am I making a big deal out of nothing? Am I just too sensitive? Maybe I am crazy? Maybe no body will ever love me like he does."
Narcissists speak their own language. They are often kind, and generous in the beginning of the relationship, but eventually begin dropping subtle insults. They wait to see if you tolerate the insult. If you do, then overtime they get more severe.
Leaving is not easy, but if you can arm yourself with concrete ideas to prepare yourself for the loneliness that is inevitably going to show up, you can move through this painful time with much less suffering.
Breaking up with a narcissist is probably the single most important thing you can ever do for your personal health, and emotional well being. Those of us who have narcissistic parents, or who have suffered from long term narcissistic and emotional abuse are the most prone to attracting narcissists into our lives.
It is possible to lover yourself after narcissistic abuse and find love after suffering from codependency.
It is my hope this video helps you to feel more empowered when it comes to ending the toxic relationships that are holding you back and draining you or your personal power.
